RISD Art Museum Field Trip

We examined a few specific pieces from the Revolutionary-period, through a history lens.  What can we learn about people's attitudes, lifestyles, and customs through the artwork?  What can we learn about the portraitist's attitudes through the portrait?  Student responses were ample and thoughtful!

We also wandered, noticed, and wrote about art, connecting to it personally and choosing pieces the characters in Chasing Vermeer would have been drawn to.  Students were incredibly focused and engaged.  We could have stayed for hours.
